Mmmhh, spaghetti meatballs. Just like in Lady and the Tramp!
You can never go wrong with spaghetti and meatballs.
Spaghetti and meatballs as a dish originates from the Italian immigrants in the U.S., as spaghetti was one of the only Italian ingredients available at the time. This is when people began eating pasta and meatballs together. And why stop when it is so delicious.
This recipe can be made by everyone, Italian or not. Our Spaghetti Meatballs is delicious, super easy and so much more sustainable than the traditional beef-based dish.
Ingredients
For the meatballs
400 g Hey Planet Meatballs
For the tomato sauce
1 tbsp oil or butter for frying
1 medium onion
1 garlic clove
2 x 400g canned chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp brown sugar
Salt and pepper
To season and serve
400g pasta of your choice
Parmesan, grated
Method
Take out your Hey Planet Meatballs.
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 tbsp olive oil or butter. Once the pan is hot, add the meatballs.
Shake the pan regularly to ensure that the meatballs stay round (so they don’t get flat on one side).
Fry until golden and well done with a crispy crust.
Finely chop the onion and garlic. Heat a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil, and sauté the onions and garlic until cooked through.
Add the chopped tomatoes, oregano, brown sugar, salt and pepper.
Let the sauce simmer under a lid for 20 minutes. Taste the sauce and season to taste.
When the sauce is nearly finished, cook the pasta following the pack instructions.
Place the meatballs in the tomato sauce and heat them through in the sauce for about 5 minutes.
Drain the spaghetti and either stir into the sauce, or serve the sauce on top. Serve with more grated parmesan and fresh basil, if you like.
