How can a protein bar be sustainable? Aren’t all protein bars sustainable? Is it just a gimmick to add insects? Great questions, we’ll try to answer:
Our protein bars consist solely of natural ingredients. Organic dates and nuts - and then of course the buffalo beetle powder. The buffalo beetles are a natural source of a high amount of protein - as well as vitamin B12, iron, fibre, and so on.
More nutrition, less resources
Having a climate-friendly diet means getting the nutrition you need, while using as few of the planet’s resources as possible.
So in terms of having a snack, it is far more sustainable to consume something healthy with a bunch of nutrients, than a snack with fewer nutrients - even if these don’t contain anything from animals.
Instead of meat?
The buffalo beetles contain a bunch of important nutrients that you normally get through meat. These nutrients can be hard to get enough of on a plant-based diet. A bar once in a while can actually work as a natural supplement and enable a more meatless diet. Also, in order to eat sustainably and more healthy we should eat more nuts and fruit than the average person eats today.
Since our bars are made with dates and almonds or peanuts, this also contributes to having a healthy diet that is within the planetary boundaries.
Because the buffalo beetles are an animal source of protein they contain all the essential amino acids that your body needs – just like meat.
